Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A horrifying case of suspected triple suicide has shaken the Rajdanga Gold Park locality under Kolkata’s Kasba police station. On Tuesday evening, the lifeless bodies of three family members were discovered hanging inside their flat at 50, Rajdanga Gold Park. The deceased were identified as 70-year-old Sarjit Bhattacharya, his 68-year-old wife Gargi Bhattacharya, and their 38-year-old son Ayushman Bhattacharya.
Police were alerted around 6:10 pm when neighbours reported that the family hadn’t opened the door since morning. Upon arrival, officers found the main doors locked from inside. In the presence of locals, both the collapsible and wooden doors were broken open. Inside, Sarjit’s body was found hanging in the dining area, while Gargi and Ayushman were found in one of the rooms. A local doctor declared all three dead at the scene.
The Kolkata Police’s Homicide Unit and Detective Department reached the spot and launched a detailed investigation. The bodies have been sent for postmortem, and police have registered a special unnatural death case. While suicide is being treated as the primary angle, other possibilities have not been ruled out.
The tragedy has plunged the neighbourhood into grief, leaving many residents stunned and questioning what may have led to such an extreme step by the entire family.
